the Scent Project... for Dogs & People!

More Info...

Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of plant-derived, 100% aromatic essential oils to promote psychological well-being. It is used as part of an integrative approach, adding that extra layer of assist. Beneficial to both humans and dogs, aromatherapy elicits a more positive emotional response, whether it’s to lift the mood, add energy, or to relax and take a well needed deep breath.

For dogs, olfaction, or the process of smelling, is the dog’s primary sense. They’re considered macrosmatic animals, which means their nose knows. For example, a human has 5 million receptors to detect scent, a dog has 220 million or more. Using scent to create emotional balance makes good sense.

For humans, we are considered microsmatic in the smelling world. This means that we need to work harder to gather information with our nose. There is a reason we use dogs for scent detection work! Scent needs to be pure and obvious, and most of the time pleasing to the nose in order for it to create a positive emotional response. Plant based oils tend to be pleasing and therapeutic for humans.

Shelf Life
Apart from a few exceptions, all steam distilled essential oils have a shelf life of at least 2 years, and even more when stored properly. Cold pressed citrus oils have the shortest shelf life of all essential oils due to a high proportion of components called terpenes which are more prone to oxidization. Therefore extra care should be taken to store them safely away from sources of heat. If they were fresh when you purchased them from your supplier, you can expect citrus oils to remain in good condition for 9 to 12 months, and even longer when cared for properly. Due to their chemical makeup, essential oils do not turn rancid like vegetable oils, they simply degrade gradually into a state where the therapeutic properties become diminished.  NOTE - store your Paws & People Room Mists in a cool place out of direct sun light.

Emulsifier
An emulsifier helps to bind water and oil into ‘one’ compound. The most commonly used emulsifier in aromatherapy is alcohol. Because dogs do not respond favorably to the smell of alcohol, rubbing or vodka, it would defeat the purpose. Paws & People aromatherapy blends are emulsifier free. We believe ‘shaking’ the bottle before use is the best way to blend and keep the scents pure, positive and effective.

Bottles
Our bottles are tinted either cobalt blue or amber to keep  light out of the product and to help maintain a good shelf life. We have also chosen to use plastic, for two reasons, no broken glass around four paws on the ground is important to us, and plastic is recyclable in the state of Montana.

Earth First Because our main products are plant based we have a strong commitment to doing our part to take care of the Earth first. We Re-Use & Re-Cycle more than 75% of our packaging material and boxes. So if your product arrives in a shoe box, please know we are trying to do our part!

The Cure
If your looking for something to cure behavioral problems or take the place of good solid training, our product is not going to be it, no product for that matter will be it. Our Essential Oil Room Mists are designed to add an assist, an extra layer for more positive results, balance, peace with mind, body and spirit. Please be curious and inspired but also realistic in expectations.
